My parents didn't abuse me, or give me horses to abuse. Instead they got me involved in 4-H, which gave me a good foundation to build on. As an adult I took years of lessons with a good trainer and worked as a groom and assistant trainer in a racing stable. I educated myself, learning everything I could about equine behavior, herd psychology and using body language as a source of communication. The horses I took care of were not mine, but I treated them like my own; with respect and empathy.
So I would have to say that my story with horses has been the diametric opposite of Ren's. I wish Ren knew that, because she judges all horse people by her own past actions, blindly assuming that we all abuse horses on a daily basis. If this book was some form of therapy, it would be better if she had written it for her own emotional closure and not published this disgraceful confession full of hysterical, baseless accusations.
Shame on Ren Hurst, for her past actions, and shame on her for assuming that we are all like her. This woman needs to stay far, far away from horses, she is still clearly too emotionally unbalanced to be a good horsewoman. This reprehensible little confession is the worst book I've read in 2020, a complete literary nadir. Zero stars, hated it.… (más)
