A memoir of an Army nurse sent to the island of Tongatabu (the Fiji Islands) in early 1942 with one of the first evacuation hospitals to leave the U.S., the 7th Evac., assigned to Task Force 0051. Spangle spent three full years overseas with the 7th Evac, the first two on Tongatabu and the third in India. Her memoirs are filled with photographs, excerpts from letters she wrote home to her family in Georgia, and photocopies of numerous documents including newspapers, hand drawn maps and official military correspondence. It is an excellent read, is extremely informative and succeeds in imparting much of the flavor of Spangle's war time experiences.
