Excellent survey of the history of American gardening and lanscaping. The text describes the influences and common features of landscape design in each major period of American history, and why these things evolved the way they did. Photographs and drawing selection is weak however, and does not really enhance the text as well as it could have. Still, a great work to use along with other more pictorial references.
