Gillian Hibbins

Essentially a shorter version of Hibbins views on the origins of the game expounded in her 2008 Sporting Traditions journal article. In the same book, page 185, Adam Goodes, an Indigenous AFL player and two-time Brownlow medallist takes an opposing view to Hibbins.

Hibbins presents the argument that Indigenous forms of football, such as Marngrook, had no influence upon the origins or early development of Australian Rules football. A view defended and contested by a range of historians and commentators.
