Henrietta Boggs (1918–2020)

This was a really excellent memoir by Henrietta Boggs, the American-born former first lady of Costa Rica. Though not a full memoir in the sense of the telling of a complete life story, this volume tells the story from when Henrietta first came to Costa Rica until the day she left. It's written with such description and with a wonderful use of words. Some of Henrietta's experiences were nothing short of harrowing. And her experiences as the country's first lady are fascinating to read. I loved her dealings with the different ambassadors. Henrietta had to forge a new trail in the role of first lady, and though she felt insecure, she did an excellent job.

Henrietta died this year at the age of 102. Reading about her time in Costa Rica is a fitting tribute to a life well-lived.… (más)
