Author interviewed 38 women from around the world about their wartime experiences. Ten of the women interviewed were from the United States, but only two were women who actually served in the military. One of the women interviewed was a prostitute who serviced soldiers during the Vietnam War era. Another was an antiwar activist who helped draft resisters get into Canada. A Japanese interned in a relocation camp during World War II and a Rosie the Riveter were also interviewed. Family members interviewed included the wife of an Air Force Pilot, lost her son to the war in Vietnam, a military wife whose husband left her for a Vietnamese woman and a daughter whose military father was an alcoholic. The two military women included were Ruth Smith, an African American joined the Air Force for the opportunities it offered and served 20 years and a WAVE who worked in Intelligence during World War II.… (más)
