This book offers instructions on performing 9 experiments which can be done with everyday items available in most people's kitchens. Most experiments also introduce scientific vocabulary--like chemical reaction or osmosis. There are photographs of children doing the experiments, which helps clarify instructions. The book covers a wide variety of concepts, including molecules, states of matter,acids and bases, and transpiration. It is clear and does not condescend. It also has a glossary of scientific terms at the end and an index. The only glaring omission is discussion of the scientific process--where scientists test hypotheses, rather than just following a set of instructions.
