My daughter is a high school student who takes AP classes and college credit classes. She plays three different instruments and is part of an audition-only wind ensemble at a local university. Basically my girl, with her 4.4 GPA, should be a walking advertisement for the stressed-out overachieving high school student.
But she's not, and one reason why she isn't a bundle of fried nerves is her discovery of all the great coloring books currently on the market. Elaborate mandalas, intricate patterns, fluffy kitties, you name it, she has created some amazing pictures with her colored pencils and art pens. I was thrilled to get the opportunity to review a coloring book and let her check it out.
And holy crap did she have opinions, and they all boiled down to how much she did not like this book. The pictures are not pretty (something I agree with). The images, instead of giving the impression of being soft and flowing organically, are instead very stiff and angular. I noticed this right away, but I don't color so I withheld my opinion until I heard what she thought. Not surprisingly, her opinion totally echoed my own.
All in all, a bit of a bummer. She's taking the ACT tomorrow and I had really hoped this would have been something she could color tonight as a stress reliever.
