Gave up around page 200. Characters were boring. Magic system was bland and entirely unexplored. World was uninteresting. Wasn't terrible just boring
A fine entry in the dark dystopian fantasy genre. This has enough grit to make a lifetime supply of sandpaper. Truly evil queen, mysterious exiles, very strong main characters and a plot that had me read 300+ pages last night and grab it this morning so I could finish it. Satisfying ending that has the same flavor as the Hunger Games.

Well there were a lot of elements I enjoyed but overall the book was a miss for me.
It felt a little bit like this was written in quite an organic way allowing the story to unfold as it moved along. However, the result was that parts felt unfinished as the characters were moved along by whatever took the writers fancy next. Unfortunately there were too many characters for my taste which resulted in me feeling quite disconnected to them and their journey. Also, the ending was pretty underwhelming. What I did love were the horror elements. I found these scenes to be quite tense, engaging and well written. I really did like the concept of the novel and the empath magic, the telling of the story just didn't feel cohesive enough for me.… (más)
