The modern period is defined as beginning in the late 1780's, therefore the movements to abolish slavery, outlaw alcohol, and insure the rights of oppressed people are included. Short biographies of activists, popes and presidents. Very broad in persons and topics included, ie. more than Anglo world. But strangely organized with movements mostly covered through people or organizations and then not even referenced in the index.
