This was a plain and simple fun read with a little ghost action thrown in. But what I want to know is what happened to Lucy? She'd better be taking proper care of Red in book 2, Red is an Attitude. Looking forward to watching Red's next adventure, off to Mexico, and discovering how Joe, Mac and maybe Aunt Esther--just guessing--back from the dead, play in the the new mystery and why does it follow them all the way back to Nuggetville? There is certainly more to learn about Red Mojo Mama.

First of all, I want to apologize to Kathy for waiting so damn long to read her book. Second of all, if you have not read her book don’t wait like I did.

First Impression: I knew from the beginning that I was in for something original and wonderful. I absolutely adore Kathy and I knew that she wrote her book with just a fraction of her passion that she lives her life with, then her book would be wonderful.

First 50 to 100 Pages: It did take me a little while to get to the meat of the story. The first several chapters is really following Red around as she meets the people of her mobile living park, her new connection with her dead husband, and really getting to know the city. After that, I definitely got my mystery that I was waiting form.

Characters: Red is my role model! I definitely want to be as spunky as her. She is a no-nonsense woman, says exactly what she is thinking, and does what she wants. She also has such a huge heart and soon finds she has a whole town to take care of. I love the changes that she went through in this book. She starts off being very reluctant to do what her deceased Aunt Esther had in mind for her.

Joe is quite the country man. He’s manly, caring, charming, and has a way the ladies. As a chef for an elder folks home, he is also great in the kitchn. When he and Red meet, there are definitely sparks flying. He and Red hit it off right away and their relationship just went on from there. I have to admit, while I loved their romance, I was not really a fan of their…amorous scenes. I feel like they were kind of out of nowhere most of the time, but hey. Who am I to deny these two love birds some lovin’?

Every single character that Red comes in contact with is just wonderful. They all have their quirks and stories and it’s not hard to see why Red fell in love with every single one of them. Except for the Council people. She rightly disliked those guys.

Plot: It did take a little bit longer than I liked for the mystery to start working it’s way through the plot, but once it started, it just kept on going. It definitely was a hard book to put down. I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s not as detailed and engrossing as other mysteries that I’ve read, but Kathy just has a special touch to her words and I think that’s what kept me coming back.

The only part I didn’t particularly care for was this sense of afterlife and ghosts and such. At times it felt a little out of place, but at the same time, Mac was giving her wonderful bits of advice and urging that she wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. So I can definitely look past my misgivings.

Final Thoughts: I would highly recommend this book to those who want a fun, original, quirky mystery. And if you are a redhead, have a thing for redheads, or appreciate redheads, read this book!

Kathy Lynn Hall did such an excellent job developing her fun, quirky, good-hearted characters in Book One that cracking open Book Two was like catching up with old friends.

The story opens with Red and her boyfriend, Joe, sun bathing on the deck of a cruise liner, enjoying some peace and relaxation, which doesn't last long. Before they know it, they find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving a love triangle. Things turn dangerous when Red seemingly becomes a target of revenge.

Though the plot is a lot of fun, the characters make the story for me. Hall, an excellent writer, knows how to carve out a character that rings true. She nails the superb voice of Red whom I liken to Stephanie Plum, a mature version of Stephanie Plum that is. Red is someone you'd want as your best friend; Joe is a guy you'd like to date; and their friends at The Springs, the mobile home park Red inherited from her aunt, are coveted neighbors. In other words, Hall's main and reoccurring characters are all that they seem: caring, loyal people. For me, that makes this series refreshing and a pleasure to read. However, I recommend reading Book One, Red Mojo Mama, first to really get to know this wonderful set of characters.

Note: This series is written for an adult audience. If you're not allowed to watch movies rated over PG-13, you'll have to wait on Red Mojo Mama.

Lydia (AKA Red) loses her husband unexpectedly and with it her Mojo. This story is how she recovers from loss with the help of the ghost of her dead husband and the menagerie living at the Trailer Park she has recently inherited from he favorite aunt (the other redhead who she used as a life role model). I found the visual aspects of the characters especially involving. A good story with believable nuances in the life of Red, Mac, Joe and aunt Esther as well as the collection of loveable tenants. An enjoying romp through the emotional traps of moving ahead in your life and involving yourself with others.… (más)
