I don't have any good things to say about this book. The author takes a real event that happened in Hudson, Wisconsin a few years ago, changes the names of the people involved, stays with the 'true' story until close to the book's end, and then drastically changes the outcome. Seems like a lazy and unimaginative way to get published. On the other hand, maybe the author has a good excuse for this travesty - perhaps the main character is much like him and completely full of himself.

I admit to giving this book a painfully low rating. But I don't believe it is unjustifiable. I'm not certain where to begin with the review.

The book is based, as it SHOULD say in the summary, on the real-life murders that happened here in my home town. What I feel is most wrong with this novel, is that when a person feels inspired to write a piece of fiction because of something that has happened in real life, then that author should really put some thought and imagination and WORK into their book. I read this book and couldn't see where Mr. Hahn had done any real writing on his own, aside from interjecting a thinly drawn up 'investigative reporter' into the news that he pulled from the archives of the actual case, and did some 'find all' and 'replace with' edits to change the names of the main characters in the real events. And in one glaring place, he didn't even manage to do THAT correctly and left the first name of the real victim in error.

The main character, is sleazy and full of attitude and frankly, full of himself. And yet, The characters around him, women included, all apparently love him. He's simply unlikeable, but only to the readers, I guess.

There were several editing problems, one of which (the worst of which) I mentioned above, and hopefully if Mr. Hahn prints any future editions, he'll take care to do some further work to go through it more carefully and take care to clean these.

I cannot recommend this book to others having been close enough to this event to know the people involved. I think the story is a mess as this author tells it. The fact that he kept everything so close to the real event and then twisted the end as he did has left some people around here reading it and taking HIS version far too literally. I find this a travesty and very unfortunate and painful for people involved. It's negligent and frankly, should not be allowed.
