While some of the tips are dated, it's a solid guide to crafting characters and a story. Lots of helpful practices.

Decent enough story. The heroine is always in difficulties which are caused by her famous artist father's lack of common sense. The hero helps her out. Nothing real melodramatic or OTT. Well written and fairly interesting.

Decent read. Some male POV which is unusual for books written in this time period. Fairly well written story of a 24 year old girl who was sort of living in a manner that everyone expected of her instead of living her life as she really wanted it. She meets a man who kind of sets her free. Good descriptions of the islands off the west coast of Canada and of flying (his job) and working as a radio reporter (her job). He loved her but was a bit beta. He pointed things out to her and then let her make her own decisions. I suppose that's the kind of man who would be easier to live with in real life but maybe not the most exciting in a romance novel. It was a bit dated in that the attitudes of both the men in the story, except the hero, and some of the women were very much concerned with a woman's "proper place." I was 24 in 1986 when the book was written same as the heroine and I don't remember all of this angst over women's lib that these old HPs seem to portray.… (más)

Having the hardest time finding a Harlequin I love lately. It's easy to fall into these short treats, but lately I keep digging into mediocre ones. I must say Vanessa Grant wrote this beautifully and with an almost poetic tough. The heroine was especially troubled and times almost seem mentally unbalanced! Can't say there was much appeal for "The Mountain Man", even though any romantic scenes weren't cheesy and were tasteful enough. The plot isn't too complex but it was a decent way to pass an afternoon.… (más)
