Laura L. Gould

The author acquires a male calico cat from the pound, sort of accidentally. She hears over and over that there are no such things as male calicos, and, presented with the evidence of her pet, decides to research this for herself. Her research includes current genetics basics (in 1996), the history of genetics, the history of cats and ultimately genetic testing of her pet. The research is interspersed with stories about her cats.

When the author acquired her cats she had been long out of high school and college, so the basic genetics concepts that were part of my schooling were new to her. She does a nice job of weaving together fact and memoir. I enjoyed reading this book.… (más)
