Fred McGill used to read this book in a wonderful Maine accent to the delight of conference children visiting Star Island. We have tape recordings of him reading the Fastest Hound Dog in the State of Maine.

Quiet, deadpan humor easily lost on those from away. A good old yarn followed by "copious and scholarly" notes by the teller.½
