The story of the fur trading sailing vessel, Nanuk which was frozen in the coastal ice on the Siberian coast northwest of Bering Straits in 1929. In an early use of aviation to retrieve cargo and some of the passengers, pioneer aviator Carl Ben Eielson and mechanic Earl Borland were lost, leading to an international search for the missing aviators. Told by radio operator Robert Gleason, the book provides a excellent first hand account of the events, what it was like to live and travel in the Arctic in the era when sailing vessels still plied the seas.… (más)
