Beautiful coffee table book.
This is a stunning book to pick up and browse through, perhaps you would find a few ideas to inspire you - I don't think it's something that you'd read from cover to cover, or buy for your Kindle.

The photography is excellent, with prefect lighting in every shot, but for my taste, the rooms are rather over-filled with upholstery and ornaments. Some of the fabrics are also a bit busy. I love the author's aim of bringing the outside indoors, but there are rather too many floral fabrics and it's hard to keep fresh flowers looking good all year. I noticed that the same bunch of white tulips seems to appear in all the houses too!

These are not your average suburban semis, these are houses to drool over, with arches and space to spare. A book for when you feel like dreaming.

Nell Hill's Rooms We Love - Mary Carol Garrity

This is an inspiration book. I've been looking at several of these lately. They aren't things I would necessarily do but they are things that make me think about how I live. Decorating is not a talent of mine so I need guidance and these type of books make me look at my stuff in new ways. This particular book focuses on 4 houses specifically. While they are different types of houses, they are all decorated in what I would consider "traditional." To me that means partly elegant, partly cozy.

What I always notice is the little reading retreats that most of these houses manage to work in somewhere. I envy a little private place to read. Several of the pictures in this book make me reconsider a few places in my house where I might be able to create one. The pictures are beautiful and there are plenty of them. The decorating looks above my pay grade but again, it's inspirational. I enjoyed looking through this and dreaming.

This was provided to me through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book has beautiful photographs, but it seems more of a portfolio for the author. It's heavy on the photos (which is good), but light on any instructions of how to achieve the look (which is bad).

(58) Luxurious, light-filled rooms are the hallmark of this guide to elegant yet unfussy decor. Creamy tulips, gilded mirrors, ebony lamp shades, and overstuffed chairs welcome in the reader. Text is sparse, and many pages are dedicated to photos of a small number of homes designed by the Nell Hill group. This hyper-focus on just a few properties is a double-edged sword: on one hand, we really get to know a house in its totality. On the flip side, it means that at times, identical or similar images repeat throughout the book.… (más)
