Administration is a fairly thankless job. Creating (and sticking to) budgets, organizing meetings, formulating schedules — these “behind the scenes” tasks aren’t are visible or as valued as more ministerial actions in the Church.

And yet, if we are called to pursue holiness regardless of our vocation, shouldn’t leaders use their roles to deepen their relationship with Christ?

Careful thinking about the spirituality of administration is just one of the gifts Ann Garrido offers in "Redeeming Administration." She identifies and reflects on 12 different habits administration calls us to. Among the list are both the expected (trust, integrity, breadth of vision) and the surprising (humor, agape, embracing death). For each habit she also identifies a “spiritual companion” from the Church’s history who embodies that particular aspect of administration.

I greatly appreciate Garrido’s expanded vision of administration in ministry and her honesty in both the joys and challenges it brings. "Redeeming Administration" will hold a special place on any leader’s bookshelf.
