Author Keith Gandal creates poetry out of the shithole that is Cleveland, Ohio. A band of Ohio expats meet in the titular "self-help" group in 1980s New York City. Oh yeah, and there's murder, sex, fires, drugs, and punk rock all wrapped up in noir. Protagonist Sam frantically sorts out the mess he's in while searching for his foster sister who went missing in the late 60s. This novel is a fiction lover's wet dream. Read this one before they make the movie.
