Romantic story with an ending I couldn’t predict. Started slow but kept my attention. Worth the read for a fresh take on love stories

I knew I might be in trouble when I read the note to the reader at the beginning of the book - "The Day I Found You also has a very unique and experimental form. The author chose not to follow grammatical rules......." Oh, boy! I love stories about love, and there were some beautiful statements in this book, but I just couldn't make heads or tails of most of it. It was so difficult to follow. Every time I tried to read it I got so frustrated. At first I thought my problem stemmed from the fact that this book was translated from another language, but the more I tried the harder it got. I am sorry, but cannot personally recommend this book.½

I started this book and had a hard time keeping myself interested (it was also while we were moving) I have set it aside for now and will come back to it.

I waited and waited for this book to go somewhere but no plot, no character studies; beautiful prose and lovely imagery. The cover states that it is a novel but reader beware it is a book of essays and poetry glorifying love. In my golden years, I may be cynical because of my years of experience that very few people express love in this manner. It is acts of love that truly show your lover what you are feeling.

Once an upon a time, a gentleman told me that anyone can write of love but to show your love is more meaningful. In short, this book is for the young of heart and mind who have not yet found what truly beautiful love can be when shared over years of marriage.

As much as I appreciated the idea of this book, I can’t in all honesty say it was an enjoyable read. There is some beautiful language and interesting imagery, but after a few false starts, I had to force myself through it to the detriment of both my reading experience and my appreciation for the art. Translation issue in part, perhaps, as I have seen other reviews and it seems many of the Bulgarian readers seem to have had a better experience than the rest of us. I’ll give it another shot once my Portuguese skills are up to snuff.

DNF How many times can you make a paragraph from one run-on sentence? Cute cover though.

I tried. I really did. The author tries to define love. And what it means to love. Why we love and what is important in a loving relationship. Blah blah blah. I was expecting a “love” story but couldn’t get past all philosophical crap that I was suppose to understand. Boring!!! This book was suppose to set me free. All it did was set me free from finishing it.

Not for me at all. I could not get into the story and gave up within only a few pages.

This book was... weird.

For starters, the author decided to say the hell with grammar and write this thing however the fudge he damn well pleased. He thinks that by doing so, he is being a visionary. But I think he's just being an idiot.

Overall, the book makes little to no sense. Each chapter is completely different and unconnected from the next. It kind of felt like I was reading the stolen diary of a sociopath and in that respect, it felt almost like I was doing something intimate and wrong. I found myself having a morbid curiosity wondering what crazy thing he was going to say next.

The cover of this book claims that this book is "A Novel". Nope. Sorry, it is not. A novel has characters, plot, setting, etc. This was kind of all over the place and felt more like poetry.

I did like some of what he was saying, but I hated most of it. It felt like it was trying very hard to come across as deep and profound and I kept reading, thinking maybe it would be. Maybe the man is a genius and I'm an imbecile because it didn't make a lot of sense to me. Or maybe it's the other way around.

If this review isn't making much sense it's because the book destroyed my brain and my ability to recognize a normal sentence and its structure. After reading this, I now need to retake all my elementary school grammar classes just to remember what normal speech looks like.

Thanks a lot.

I was given a review copy from Library Thing.
