One out of every four children placed in foster care now lives with relatives. Due to an emphasis in child welfare for children to remain with their families and to an overloaded foster care system, this trend reinforces the need for training on this specialized topic. This is a great instructional film for resource parents who are caring for substance exposed infants, meaning babies who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs and prescription medications. It goes over the effects of prenatal substance exposure, goes through some of the myths that exist on the prognosis of these infants, identifies medical issues, and offers tips for how to comfort and parent irritable infants and lethargic infants.
