[LOUVRE] offers more prose than verse poetry
and, while it professes to deliver an opportunity to make our own meaning -
why do we want to do this out of another man's tragedy? or lust?

It delivers often well constructed writings, yet care and connections are hard to make...

I have tried several times to finish reading this book. The poetry is just too dark for my liking. I guess like it's title, you have to enjoy this kind of art. The Louvre holds all kinds. This just wasn't one I enjoyed. I'm sure there are others who will like it more than I.

The poems are not the sort that make you embarassed for the author. That is to say they are not bad. But neither are they memorable or compelling. I tried to search this book for a poem, any poem, that would speak to me, but I couldn't find one. Once years ago my chef father and I dined at a new pasta place in town that made all their pasta fresh. But even so it was mediocre. My father shrugged his shoulders and said, "They tried." That is how I was left feeling about this book.

This is an ambitious collection both in terms of subject matter, and acknowledgment (and use) of influences. It is perhaps, such ambition that ends up making the collection a somewhat failed attempt. At times, the language - the vocabulary - gets in the way of meaning. In a number of instances the choice of words seems to be informed by its unusualness rather than its purpose within the poem. If it aims to move in the direction of Vicente Huidobro's Altazor, such aim is not realized. Relatedly, there are multiple instances in which usage goes against meaning as well as multiple instances in which the internal logic of the text does not hold, for instance "...the scene is quite dark, there's no light at all...."
