2023 movie #70. 1947. The "Beast" was the severed hand of a dead pianist who was terrorizing the pianist's former friends, but apparently only one person could see the hand (a crazy-eyed Lorre) and it killed him or something. Really more hokey, than scary.

After World War II, ex-soldiers trickle into French Saigon to join the Foreign Legion, among them American Whit Corbett and German Carl Reicher. Is Reicher really SS war criminal Martin Bruner, and is Corbett after him? Art dealer Van Ratten and nightclub chanteuse Lili Maubert are also more than they seem. It's an awkward, badly-made movie. The story is absolute garbage. The singing and dancing are boring at their best. There are a couple laughs, but for the most part the comedy completely fails.

Walt Disney pats himself on the back for an hour. Notable for containing a fairly sizable excerpt from Song of the South. There's just enough Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd to make it watchable.
