Rhyming text describes Princess Cupcake Jones' reluctance to go to school - she's worried she won't like it, or others won't like her. Reassurance from her mother, a warm greeting from her teacher, and a welcome from a new friend ("I like your tutu. It looks just like mine, except mine is blue") help Cupcake settle right in. Cupcake, her mother, and the teacher are all Black; other students are Black, white, and Hispanic.
