Did I mention I was a cultural anthropology major in college? Surely I have, and I did so at a Southern university, another reason I keep seeking out books like this one. This title is a pretty traditional ethnography seeking to crack a relatively understudied topic: identity as expressed through food. The author spent two long periods of time living in Jackson, observing and getting to know African Americans to understand how they express their identities and connect with people using food. It was an ambitious study, moving from homeless shelters to sports journalists and describing in (perhaps too extensive) detail how they sought food.… (más)
