What a delight to delve into the history of an iconic fair snack! Fisher scone lovers will be enlightened to learn about the entrepreneurial O.W. Fisher family, dating back to the Civil War, and their various business enterprises including flour mills, one of which would be established in Seattle on Harbor Island (the old mill is now a soundstage). Who knew about Newton Coleman, the Black spokesperson who presented at fairs up and down the West Coast and whose face was on Fisher flour packaging and cookbook premiums? And of course, scone love is all around as the author quotes testimony from fans and Fisher scone stand workers, past and present.
