There's a wide range of classic table styles in this do-it-yourself woodworking book. The instructions are written in a conversational tone by nine different woodworkers. There are plenty of tips for the novice and a few for the experienced woodworker. The photographs and drawings were clear and easy to follow. I had to consult the Internet a few times to further clarify a few of the terms/concepts, but they were never gaps that would have interfered with my ability to complete a project. The project authors offered periodic insights into why they made a particular selection or design twist and those were helpful in deciding whether to follow the plan exactly (same wood, same finish, same hardware) or make it more personal or relevant to my environment/vision. The instructions for building workshop aids were as clear as the actual furniture plans--a real safety and economy boost. This is a nice mid-range book since it doesn't have projects that look as though they're "my first crate, I made it myself" but it also doesn't have the intimidating multi-layered, minuscule-type-font, complex diagrams that "fine furniture" books often have.

This book has a TON of information! Not just about the techniques, but about the basic chemical composition of various finishes, when to use what and why, how to avoid problems, basic safety, etc. etc. etc. I learned SO much! I got mine from the library, but I will definitely be adding this to my reference library for future projects.

Some genius here. I can really appreciate the distance that the author writes from, and still manages to singe the reader with the poignancy of the flames of emotion.

Since joinery is such an important part of woodworking (at least for for any project of any complexity excluding carving) I find it's always good to add to my joining knowledge. This book is an excellent set of article from Fine Woodworking dealing with the topic mentioned. All of them are excellent articles, though a few seemed to have a bit of overlap. Though the ones that overlapped still had a lot of good information where they were different.

Excellent book, I've never been wrong picking up anything from Fine Woodworking and this is another great one.

I like the design of "Bookcase Makes Waves" p.48-51. To simplify, I would remove waves in shelves and vertical openings at the ends.

Empfehlenswert!

This book is a starter book for people thinking about having their own lumber cut and then drying it themselves. It was written in the mid 80's so some of the information is dated but a surprisingly large amount is still current and useful. I learned quite a bit from this one and for anyone thinking about drying lumber it is a good resource to start. There are a couple designs on kilns and some good advise to the novice woodworker as well as far as using properly dried wood for a project.

Overall a very good, well written book with a lot of great information. This book was not really what I was looking for at this time. It is a little more involved and higher level than my skill currently warrant. about a third of this book is talks about drafting your work, which is a good idea in general, but it gets down to specifics that are well beyond my current needs.

Excellent book, clear illustrations and easy to understand. Lots of good advice and interesting tips on how to do different joinery techniques. Must have book for beginning and intermediate woodworkers. Only one chapter was a little outdated that I noticed and that was the one dealing with biscuit joiners.

Picked this up cheap used. It doesn't have much I haven't seen elsewhere except to plans to this cool contraption that measures people for custom chairs.
