I thought this was a cute book. I struggled to form a strong emotional bond to the main characters. In addition, that the romance build up was a slow burn. I wanted the romance to come a bit quicker. Part of this I felt could have helped was if there were not so many flash backs to when Thea was gone. If there was more of them together in the present time, this would have helped.

While I got that Shay has a bit of an ego, it was actually Thea that I did not connect with the most. I found what she did by running off after getting married was wrong; despite her reason was for a good cause.

Yet, their relationship felt real. So, what they were experiencing together giving their love a second chance was relatable. I will say that the latter half of the story I liked better. Love that the story ended on a HEA.

Sweet Holy Titfire...

It seems that 2020 is the year to blow my mind when it comes to books because there have been so many already this month alone that deserves to be in the running for the top books read, this one is definitely one of them. I was not prepared for how amazing this book was or how much it would sting to have it end on a cliffhanger (twice- if the prologue of the next book counts also). This author pens some of the best books out there (Callaghan Green series needs to be added to the TBR ASAP if anyone reading this hasn't already read them) but they hold nothing to this book and the promise that is to come in the next book of the trilogy.

This story had it all" suspense, secrets, mind games, chemistry, steam, mind games, STEAM(had to be mentioned twice), in-depth characters, mystery, and a love triangle. Even though there is a love triangle per se, and this is a MMF book, so far it has just been hinted at the MM part in passing but it hasn't been seen on the pages, yet. It left me with the same feelings as Sierra Simone's New Camelot Series which is an all-time favorite of mine. The world-building in this book is PHENOMENAL. It sets up the game board and all of the characters. Blair, Isaac, and Ben. All have a role to play, they all have secrets, and they all wear masks. Add in the secondary characters, and the game gets really interesting. Who is friend, foe, or just a bystander? There are a lot of moves happening on the board and anything can happen.

I felt the emotions in the characters, I fell enraptured with the manipulations and motivations behind the characters and the moves they were making. Everything felt as if I was really watching how it might be in a royal court. At times it felt like I was inside a modern-day version of the Tudors or Braveheart. Wicked, wicked, wicked good. I cannot wait for the next book. This is one of those times that cliffhangers REALLY suck.

HOLY Titfire...

This author is killing me slowly. I knew that after the way that book one ended that I was going to be in for a wild ride, and boy howdy was I ever. The first book left off with a preview of what was to come and even though I was "prepared" I really wasn't prepared if that even makes sense.

This book is even hotter than the first book. How that is even possible, I have no idea. Zero. Nada. None. Yet, she upped the steam and chemistry between all of these characters. The secrets, tension, power plays, and suspense is still palpable. I am still in awe of how this author has created this amazing fictional world that seems so real. It is like Dynasty, Dallas (vintage TV), and The Crown merged and made a baby... but better. SOOOOOOO much better. It is appropriate the book is named Grenade because I still have no idea who is good and bad in this book, and all I do know is that S%*T has gotten real. That in itself should say how great this book is. It is a rollercoaster ride of all rollercoaster rides. That ending... no seriously, that ending... GOBSMACKED and left my mouth agape like a fish out of water. Truly Sublime. I am contemplating sacrificing my son to the zombies for Emeralds. Kidding. #kinda #TheStruggleIsReal

I can already tell by the first two books that these will be going in my all-time favorite vault. That is how good this series is. Definitely, in my best of 2020. I cannot recommend this series enough.

Well, alrighty then.

This author just gave me the conclusion I was expecting and then some. This whole trilogy has been a cat and mouse game in which I had no idea who was good and who was bad. The blurbs of these stories didn't help either because they just added to the suspense and drama as this saga was unfolding.

Fantastic characters, mystery, strong connections, backstory, different points of view that all added a certain element to the story and steam galore all made this entire series one that I will read again. All of my questions were answered. It was a surprise at who was behind all of these sinister motives, and incidentally, not at all the person that I thought it would be.

Bravo to this author for taking me on an epic journey, of betrayal, political intrigue, and ultimately a reminder that love comes in a plethora of ways.
