Synopsis:
A non-fiction book that looks into the cases that inspired episodes from Law and Order.

Rating:

4/5

I really enjoyed the set-up of this book. At the beginning of each section there is a note about the law and order episode inspired by the real life crime and then the book goes into what actually happened. There are also little notes in certain chapters about a certain thing that was said or done in the show versus real life police procedure or law.

As a Law and Order fan I was fascinated to see the true crimes that inspired episodes from the series (many of which I have seen).

The book was well written and the stories were intriguing. I was engaged and hungry for more.

There are pictures in this book but nothing graphic or gory. Mostly pictures of the victims pre-crime or photos/mug shots of the person who was eventually convicted of the crime.

I think if you like true crime books and Law and Order the television series this book will be right up your alley. There is another book specifically for Law and Order SVU which I haven't read yet but would be excited to try as well.

You know, I read this because I got a cheap copy. I don't watch much TV but I can never read about true crime, so why not take a chance. This book was surprisingly entertaining, and the writers can write some mean true crime. It takes no small amount of skill to make a book transcend the gimmick behind it but these two managed. Moreover, you have to be pretty good at what you do to make true crime entertaining without making it exploitative. Both managed it. I went and checked both authors out in Amazon and it seems that they, at the time of this writing, are still pretty much writing books with gimmicks but I still think I may check those works out. So there you go - excellent writers save a cheesy theme book. Hug your English teacher!… (más)
