With all books, I either really like it or really hate it. There is no in between for me.

A Very Fast Descent Into Hell is a twist of the ancient story of good and evil. Of course, good isn't always the white hat and evil doesn't always wear black. Descent follows Father Phelan, Darius Kane, and Ryder, and their struggles with love, and sin and facing their places in the universe. Phelan is a human Catholic priest who just happens to be immortal and rather depraved. This guy is seriously sick in the head. Darius Kane is a demon whose mind is scrambled from a past transgression, and sent on a mission from Ryder, whose identity is a spoiler so I won't reveal it here. Ryder could be classified as demon-kind. We'll just go with that for now.

What I loved - The idea of good and evil being twisted on its side. I alluded to this in the above paragraph. The desolation of the story. Welcome to the Apocalypse people! The sudden tragic end. More on this next...

What I didn't love - The sudden tragic end...WTF Simon Drax?!? Again, I won't reveal any spoilers and as much as I really didn't like the end, I understand the necessity of it. There is no good end if it's The End, you know?

Final thoughts - I wish there had been a little more character development for Catherine. I'm not sure how she fared so well in the Apocalypse but I love that she was a kick-ass heroine. Darius and Catherine's dialogue was great bantering. That little bit of humour brought light to a rather dark story. I do wish more time had been spent on them...but that's the romantic girl in me. What the hell do I expect in a book about The End Times?

A very quick enjoyable read.
