This is the story of an eventful round for Peter the Postman, not to be confused with Postman Pat. Peter's sack got itself entangled with Windy Miller's windmill and the inevitable happened - it went round and round. To make matters worse Private Featherby's bugle wasn't working properly. Other exciting episodes of village life are recounted, Everyone loves a postman but who came first, Peter or Pat? Peter, I think.

Some pretty scary looking people live in Camberwick Green. Is Mr Crockett really using a watering can to fill cars up with petrol? Allegorically the hare and the tortoise say it all.

This detective story has little in common with those of Ian Rankin or Henning Mankell. Not a single murder. All the attention is focussed on dog licences and a swarm of bees. Pretty disappointing and dull.
