This book was well-written but I didn't find it particularly insightful or interesting. I got maybe halfway through before deciding that life is too short.
One or two of the stories were very good (including the title story), but some seemed to me to be trying too hard to be experimental and edgy (not that I mind experimental and edgy, but these, as I said, seemed forced). The final story seemed to be very good until the ending, which I realized when I got to it had been telegraphed in what seemed to me a pretty clumsy way. Oh, well. Good, sometimes interesting, stories but not great. I would give this writer another try if I came upon one of his other books, but I wouldn't go out of my way to look for one.… (más)
John Holt loved Dennison's insights about how children (we're all children) learn. So do I. Self-directed learning is ideal.
