A Destiny to Love by Jenny Davis is a cosy, feel-good time-travel love story and family saga, the first book in The Chronicles of the Great Oak series.

The novel is mostly set in the forties and fifties but the dialogue and characters feel modern and the historic events of those decades, which are intrinsic to the story, are seamlessly threaded throughout. The plot moves along at a steady pace and has some subtle surprises.

The ending is a tantalising segue into books two and three in the series, leaving you wondering what will come next, just who is the latest mysterious time-traveller and what on earth have they done with Margaret?

There is good advice in this book, aimed at Texas residents. Chapters cover community resources (governmental, private, and religious), practical concerns (legal, financial, and governmental aid programs), and the continuum of care options, from family caregiving and in-home services, senior centers and adult day care, and long-term care in assisted living or skilled nursing/special care units. There's a section on "quality of life" (residents' rights, elder advocacy, and making the most of your visits), as well as end-of-life issues (hospice services and funeral planning).

Chapters are interspersed with "points to ponder" checklists or summaries, and each chapter ends with service directories or resource lists. Besides the table of contents, there is a helpful glossary, five appendices with further resource or contact lists, and an index.

The only problem with this book is that it was published in 2003, so resources and contacts listed may no longer be available. The website for the book, listed on the back cover, now redirects to a home health care agency in the state.

Freezer Meals: Quick and Easy Money-Saving Recipes
Love this book because not only does it give you information on how to safely prepare the food, before during and after cooking but how to reheat it. And especially the nutritional information about the dish is included.
Features all kinds of meats and poultry dishes along with vegetarian meals.
Chicken pot pie and pizza dough would be my favorites of things to freeze for use at a later time.

Somewhere between a 3-1/2 and 4 for me. It wasn't a favorite but there was a lot to this story. What drew me to it was the last phrase in Ashley's comments on it - "and sometimes, there isn't a way to make everything better". It's important to end some stories with how perceptions were adjusted and how a character deals with something rather than how it was all neatly fixed. This was a very worthwhile read.

Olivia and David have a class project to take care of Maggie, a pregnant teen. The story unfolds with much compassion and love for this girl. The horror of the abuse by her husband leads them to help her out of the situation. Neither Olivia or David realized this action would change their lives forever. Shelly Fall '09

This book details Edda's and her family's response to her father's death in a mining accident. Many other issues are explored in the book including her father's extramarital affair and her mother's relationship with Henry John, who had set the explosive charges which accidentally killed Edda's father. The book is written as a memoir from an older Edda. Different coping mechanisms are explored in the book through the different characters.
