In book one, The Follow, and I immediately fell in love with King and Shauna as their romance took off, despite the pressures of King’s R&B career and Shauna’s determination to remain independent.

The Follow 2: Blocked is the follow up novel in King and Shauna’s romance, as King suffers writers block and is forced to reach out to an old flame for help. Several new characters are introduced in this novel, including author, Jake, and fellow singer, Silk. Jealousy ensues as King and Shauna’s love is put to the test.

Author, Eliza David, eloquently picks off right where we left off in King and Shauna’s passionate romance. Like many relationships, their love becomes intermingled with the stressors of their respective lives. The defining lesson of this book, though, is the way in which each overcomes their jealousy, pressure, strain and insecurities.

A love story for the ages, as told with modern day influences, as Eliza preserves the supporting characters we met in The Follow with stars from her Cougarette Series and fresh personalities. I loved this look at romance after the initial attraction “fades!”

In The Follow, Eliza shows us her seemingly effortless ability to switch between two differing characters, as she does such a great job capturing the essence of both personalities. Of course the two main characters fall for each other, it is here Eliza shows off her comfort zone navigating us through their romantic frustrations.

Thank you to the author who gifted me this book in exchange for an honest review. You can submit requests to me here at http://bit.ly/1Ti4hLE

When I was originally asked to review BrewGirl, I was a bit hesitant. I usually shy away from anything involving romance, especially heterosexual romance. I decided to take on the challenge anyway and let me tell you, I am so glad I didn’t pass this one up.

Eliza David brings to life a strong, independent black woman in modern day Chicago. I found the female protagonist, Zoe to be very authentic. This woman is confident in her work, proud of her feminism and just snarky enough to hold her own in a male dominated industry. By the middle of the first chapter I found myself actually laughing out loud. Throughout Zoe’s journey I couldn’t help but fall more and more in love with her. When she meets Nick, a man brought into the company to help Zoe with a new marketing plan, she begins to question every moral and value she’d been brought up to believe. During the course of Zoe’s plight, I laughed with her, got angry with her and still had no idea what the final outcome would be until the very end.

I give kudos to the author here for providing us with such a believable and vivacious character. I’ll add, I love that Zoe has curves and “kinky” hair. She’s not super model pretty but she’s also not playing the “I’m so ugly” card that we so often find in female driven leads. If you’re looking for a good romance novel with a bit of snarky, crudeness and fun; BrewGirl is for you.
