It seems to me that the driving theme of this book is "universal design." I was taken by the idea of universal design as it applies to architecture - implementing things like door levers rather than handles that are more accessible to all. So in education, why not design lessons and units that are naturally accessible to all, rather than differentiating later? I wish the authors had used this theme to give a sense of structure to their many ideas. Instead, I sometimes got a whiff of what a universally-designed classroom could look like - open responses, journal writing, word problems with numbers removed, etc. - but sometimes the ideas just go on and on with no organizing force. I want to implement these concepts, but I'm not sure where to start - or even, where to end.… (más)
