A very good start for a series. Not my normal read but enjoyable.

The writing is very young and ideal for very young adults and teenagers. However, it is a difficult story to get into and the characters are not too well-rounded. The story is heavy with gossip and characters spying on each other, not an enjoyable read.

The plot, twists and foreshadowing are all well laid out. The book moves along at a great pace and kept my interest. It is a romance. I'm not sure why it isn't labeled as that, as it's missing out on a huge market that would love this book. But the romance is one of the main plot point in the book, so if you aren't into that beware.

There is a need for a editorial once over, but nothing that drags you out of the story. I don't know why but it really annoyed me that the author shortened Alexandra to Alix, I felt I was missing the point of changing the e to an i with the shortening. Usually that would imply two different people. . .

The world is well build, and laid out great, I didn't feel like there was any information dumping going on, and all my questions were answered as needed. It looks to be a thrilling series.

Alex Hill bartender extraordinaire.... Orphan and all around badass..... At a young age she lost both her parents in a freak bus accident. Frustrated she never inherited their witch powers... She trudges along in life with her rellious streak. Her aunt Jen desperate to get her to move on with her life, wants her to grow up and work at her company. Done with her grumpy boss she decides to go and interview at her aunts job. It's there that things seem to appear different. Slowly she gets impressions and jolts of warmth.... Something is definitely happening. Could there possibly be something to all this magical talk? When a frequent bar patron angrily yells at her for being a sloppy witch and negligent to the danger surrounding the magical community she wonders if something might be going on. Imagine her shock upon realizing she wasn't as defunct as she thought... And to top it all off someone purposefully kept her defunct via magic.... Go on the ride of discovery with her.... Where did it all begin, and where will this end? Friendships are formed, possible love is found, and betrayal at every turn. Take the ride of your life...
