While in serious need of editing, if you can look beyond that, this is quite a mind-blowing and intriguing look at the OCCK (Oakland County Child Killer) case with it's tentacles reaching from on high delving deep into the depraved darkness of a sick, cultish underworld of a despicable fetish and business. Not covered here but, connections abound, this case may be linked to Gacy and "The Candyman," Dean Corll (see "The Clown and the Candyman" series and podcast), and more. Quite the rabbit hole to slip down, I must say. That being said, I really wish this and Appelman's book, "The Kill Jar: Obsession, Descent, and a Hunt for Detroit's Most Notorious Serial Killer" had indexes with which to reference, though, with there being so many names and connections that were new to me. I'd like to be able to map it all out. Anyway, this is definitely a compelling read and had me up way too late a few nights. Seems to be told from the perspective of a fictional character but I presume it is a real person with an alias who had intimate connections to the case and through her research, dug up much knowledge of the still unsolved case. Although I'm not sure if I agree with the author's/character's conviction on who the culprit is (although a fair case is certainly made), there is still much worthwhile reading here for anyone interested in the case and especially the conspiracy/cover-up behind it (as I am) or true crime fans in general. Part of the OCCK canon, without a doubt. I think Marney Rich Keenan's "The Snow Killings: Inside the Oakland County Child Killer Investigation" is probably the most comprehensive on the topic, which I am now listening to and reading, although not much on the elusive Reverend Redmond, whom I suspect may have a bigger role in this story. Portraits in the Snow: The Oakland County Child Killings...Scandals and Small Conspiracies is recommended!… (más)
