I have never once found Baboon Dooley to be even remotely funny. I have never once found Baboon Dooley drawings to be even remotely interesting. They're the type of drawings where the simple style never changes. It wd be funnier to me if Crawford just used the same drawing over & over. After all, that's almost what he does anyway. &, yet, on the back cover of this bk is a list of magazines that ran the cartoon. The list continues on the inside. There are 210 of these publications - many that I have high respect for. That's obviously a testimony to Crawford's extensive participation in the 'zine networks as well as, presumably, a testimony to all the editors liking him. It's no wonder that I'm in the minority (since I often am) but it's, perhaps, even more striking than usual. Bob Black wrote the praising intro. It begins: "To his delight, I once called John Crawford "the R. Crumb of the '80's."" I don't actually like Crumb's work that much either but in comparison to Crawford he's a reg'lar laff riot. Oh, well. I don't have any personal axe to grind here - I don't know Crawford - maybe I'm just not getting it.… (más)
