I have a hard time being harsh in my reviews, because I know writers work hard and love their craft, but dear lord, this needs sooooooo much work. Like, back to the drawing board, seriously. Miles of copyedits are needed - not just punctuation and capitalization, but sentence structure, repeated descriptive words in the same sentence, spelling, just everything. ("He swore softly, immensely please with the effect of his attack was having on her.") And there is just too much extreme inconsistency and overwrought drama. Punctuation marks stand in for developed emotion. The couple just yells at each other and their feelings fluctuate so extremely and quickly that I have whiplash. This kind of comes with the territory I suppose, but the hero is just a jerk! And so many things don't make sense! Like, why in the world would Blaise assume her child is from the time Marc raped her??? She and Loic had a ton of sex all over the place, it was far more likely to be his..??? Everything was so absurd that I even forgot to scoff at the whole "gorgeous billionaire playboy" thing. Why does romance love this trope so much?? Have you seen billionaires? Those dudes are not hot. IMO there is nothing romantic about hoarded wealth - that is made off the backs of others, by the way. But anyways, I was searching for romances with abused or traumatized heroines where the hero wrongly accuses her, and has to earn her forgiveness with some good groveling. While this may technically resemble that trope, suffice it to say this is not going on my keeper shelf.… (más)
