The story of Von le Coq's archeological adventures in Chinese Turkestan at the beginning of the twentieth century. It includes a little family history, as well as background information about what was known about the silk road at the time. He describes everything in an entertaining and absorbing style with many amusing anecdotes about the people he meets and also his colleague, Grünwedel.
