This by far my most favorite required reading at the University of Washington, for not only does it detail organized crime here in Seattle from the old days, but describes the connection between criminalization of drugs and the resultant production of crime networks to support it.

Both interesting and important. Easy to read, filled with details that explain a lot about how corruption works in Seattle. Be sure to read the second edition, which was written ten years later, after more information was gathered about what happens to the money that is collected in Seattle, passed from the criminals to the cop on the beat, who passes it on, up the ranks to leading politicians. In the second book, he follows the money from the local politicians through the bag men who deliver it to the national gangsters. He doesn't name names, but it's pretty easy to know who he's talking about, if you are familiar with Seattle.

A very important book for the Powers That Be to ignore!
