H Clifford Chadderton tells the story of his personal experiences during World War II in this book and his words have you chuckling out loud one moment, to swallowing the lump in your throat the next.

Excuse Us! (Herr Schicklgruber) is very well written and told in a way that you can almost feel the emotions he is trying to convey – almost as I am sure only someone who has endured war first hand can really know what it must feel like. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, not only for the historical information it portrays but more so for allowing me to appreciate the challenges of battle through the eyes of someone who was there.

It is great to read of battle and the forces arrayed against each other along with the weapons used, but more so, it is important to understand that the battle is really all about the individuals who fought, survived or died fighting it.

When we can appreciate the pain and suffering an individual goes through regardless of his role in warfare, perhaps those who serve us will ‘Never Again’ have to go in harms way.
