Frederick Catherwood (1799–1854)

I bought it for the pictures,which are wonderful large color reproductions of Catherwood's renderings of Maya ruins, many of which have suffered major losses since he portrayed them in the early 19th century. This includes the complete reproduction of Catherwood's Views of Ancient Monuments in Cantral America, Chiapas and Yucatan.

I have some doubts about the scholarship of the modern author, whose other works are on places like Rome, Petra, etc. and 19th century artists who worked in those regions.… (más)
