In prior books in the series, suspension of belief was required in places but moreso here. Mark's missing 21 years and yet when he reappears as if from outer space, everyone seems to shrug and move on. This book is the first of the five which really ends abruptly, surely designed to get the reader to grab the next volume - but if you're this far in the series, that's not something that's in doubt.

Hard to believe that the Order could exist for so long with all the pettiness and jealousy....

On to Volume 6!… (más)

If you've read the first two (and you MUST before you get here), you're now hooked. Just when you begin to think these characters are something from an old Keystone Kops movie, the plot takes a jarring turn to the right (or left, or up, or.... well, you get the idea!) and you're off on another whirlwind. This is the very first time I've been so completely hooked into a series since I was a teenager reading Matt Helm (FAR different from this). Some very thoughtful things appear in this volume and time has moved on much faster than I might have expected from the first two - but here we are and it's an exciting ride.… (más)

Like all good series, you need to start with the first book so don't miss that. If you like it, you'll like this one just as well - or perhaps more, although you'll be pulling your hair out as plot twists go off in a completely different direction than you were so sure they would. The author's command of SO many different areas is astounding and despite the implausible plot line, you're constantly picking up great 'little tidbits' connecting to information way in the back of your brain. If you get through this one, you might as well resign yourself to the rest because whether you want to admit it, you're hooked! Almost anything written about the plot line would be a spoiler so just grab it and read.… (más)

Tempo Rubato is so completely unique that I found myself reading it with my mouth hanging open, and an occassional "Wow!" slipping out. This was a plot that made me want to call up all my friends and say, "You've GOT to read this book". Mr. Carroll creates a character in Elisse that is strong, intelligent and fully capable of rolling with the punches. As far as the rest of the characters...I would not want to spoil this exciting plot and divulge too much. All I can say is, you HAVE to read this book!
