Colm Ó Caomhánaigh

I'm just kind of, I dunno, chuffed about the existence of this. Like, that the world and the internet are big enough for this site to exist--not just a dictionary of bird names, but a dictionary of Irish bird names for English speakers (and, I suppose, vice versa), and yet you know very well that everyone who comes to this site will have at least one bird name that they care enough to look up. It's like a reaching back to a more innocent and future-buzzing time, when we were just all "the Library of Alexandria! the world at our fingertips!" And Mr. O Caomhanaigh (believe that's pronounced Cavanagh) does a decent job of it too, although on that Cavanagh note it would have been nice for the non-Irish among us to have pronunciations; the skylark, my totem bird as you probably know, is called by names including Fuiseog, Uiseog, Fuiseog Stairiceach, Circín Starraiceach, Riabhóg, Riabhóg Bheag, and Riabhóg Mhór, and I have fuck-all idea how to say any of those. http://gofree.indigo.ie/~cocaomh/HomePage.htm.… (más)
