Starting from the scratch Portugal managed to create a crack unit capable of engaging the insurgents in variety of theaters - savannas, mountains, swamps and river deltas. When helicopters (ever present Alouette III's and Puma's at the later time) started to show up in greater numbers Portugal very fast developed their own version of Rhodesia's Fireforce teams. This proved to be very efficient weapon that proved more than a match for guerilla armies.
Politics had a final say though and although Portugal let her colonies go paratroopers left with their honor intact. They proved to be a very capable combat force.
