Turner is my favourite artist, and this work is a particular joy.
This two-volume set is very hard to find nowadays, and must have been expensive on first printing. (I was very lucky to find an ex-library copy of the Text volume, and a surprisingly cheap Plates volume from a rare books dealer.)
The Plates volume contains recreations of every extant Turner oil painting (and some other works), totaling about 550, which is an astonishing feat. The Text volume includes detailed discussions of every one of these, with details of the canvas, where it is held, who has previously owned it or exhibited it or written about it, and pertinent details about the work and its popular fortunes.
If you're a Turner fan, this is simply indispensable, but be aware that the Plates volume in particular may set you back a fair amount!… (más)

Vol 1 facsimile of sketchbook, copiously illustrated in black and white. Vol 2 gilt lettering to spine, introduction and commentary by Martin Butlin, illustrated with black and white plates.
Very high-quality lithograph-like reproductions on matte paper, but the binding is deciduous: the pages are only glued in and the whole book is disassembling itself. It’s almost as if it was printed in order to be taken apart. The text is slight.
