Alain White's Christmas series book dealing with prominent two-move artists of the Soviet 40's. Among the problemists featured are Gulyaev, Mark Adabashev, M.M.Barulin. The evolution of pretty themes centered around dual avoidance and pins were pioneered respectively by Barulin and Adabashev. Themes are lettered and numbered and their original exposition in many forms of problems, each fresh as the last, forms a nice tribute to the simultaneous development of the chess problem art in the Soviet Union
while the Western post-Good-Companion chess world was lit up by such luminaries as Comins Mansfield.
