Authenticity Matters. Transparency Matters. (from the back cover) Very appropriate, as that is exactly what we receive from this author. This is one of the strongest positives of this book, that the author is open, honest and transparent about some of his personal sin failures.

Overall I found Mr. Braun to be a good writer. He brings in personal stories of himself or people he knows, info from modern media, quotes from others, and statistics into his writing in a way that flows well, makes sense and seems appropriate for the topic.

One big theme was the author’s personal journey out of shame and back to acceptance, identity and relationship with Christ. This is the part that has the potential to be hugely helpful to other people who are stuck in a place of shame. It brings much needed hope to those in that position.

Some of the other topics touched upon (all around how they relate to holiness) were traditions, purity, modesty, the struggle for community and cultural engagement.

I struggled as I read this book to personally relate to it. I am far from being a Millenial and he frequently seems to be targeting that exact generation. I am also not stuck in deep sin and shame at this moment. I really could not relate to quite a bit of what he was talking about and that frustrated me.

Although the author cautions those from an older generation (me included here) not to use this book as a “quick fix” for someone we know who is younger and might need this information, that really seems to be the best use of this book. Those stuck in shame are probably not looking for something like this book and those of us that have younger loved ones that may be in that position, this book may be one useful tool for us to use to help them.

So if you have a child, grandchild, niece, nephew, student, or younger neighbor that is a Millenial and stuck in sin and shame then consider purchasing this book for them. They will be able to relate to this author!
