Lowly apprentice detective R.D. Clarke, so of Private Detective Jerry Clarke is finally coming of age. R.D. finds himself working on a serial Murder case, trying to help his boyhood friend, Quentin, to find who killed his former girl friend (Quentin has been carrying the torch for Rachel for over nine years and had been celibate to avoid another traumatic episode). R.D. has grown in many ways. Since his near death in the previous story, he no longer sleeps more than a couple of hours at night, being awakened by a vision of being shot in the head and instead of seeing the light, seeing only blackness. His step father diagnosis is traumatic stress syndrome. Now his father and cousin, Eddie (the policeman) were starting to acknowledge him with some respect and his father had stopped his continual berating. He was actually working his own cases (after the normal office routine that was still his duty). His insight and intuition were turning up fruitful results and he was working in tandem with his father solving the routine agency cases (giving R.D. a learning opportunity and his father some relief from the mundane). While R.D. still has some self confidence issues and frequently falls into emulating a TV detective for insight into how to enter a crime scene or interrogate a witness, he is developing skills to call his own. Certainly, his inability to be the "Hard Boiled" detective depicted in the books and magazines isn't keeping him from solving his share of cases. The feet of clay only adds to his endearing qualities and makes him one of our own. Sometimes it is good to find people that have to wait in queue and have foibles and ethics and misplaced trust and tendency to fall in love with "A Pretty Face". Just a good old Joe detective on the move! A story to enjoy.… (más)

R.D. Clark, apprentice private eye is on a case following an alleged show dog for an extremely wealthy owner to determine if the dog walker is doing something to compromise this show winning dogs training. In this episode, R.D. Clark collaborates with his father, the former police captain and now private eye with extraordinary connections throughout the state and a reputation that frequently called on him being tagged as a consultant for one of the area police departments when they found themselves faced with an extremely difficult case. His father still makes life difficult for R.D. but in a rare state of generosity, actually praises R.D.. R.D. follows clues and ends up involving his dad in the case, convincing him that the wealthy owners daughter may actually be in danger and not just a nut case, paranoid loser child of a wealthy parent. R.D. wanders through this case following clues and actually proving to be more capable that expected by his dad and his client. In the end, he makes a decision that affects his client and his children, all with his fathers blessing. R.D. is growing as a detective and a man! An enjoyable if convoluted story.… (más)

An unlikely story about a twenty seven year old single boy living with his mother and step father and working as office staff (typing reports, billing, etc.) at his fathers Private Detective Agency. He still runs with High School/College buddies and dreams about having a girl friend. Robbie (Robert or R.C.) lives in his father's shadow, a former Chief of Police and highly respected Law Enforcement Officer in the immediate geographical area, still frequently participating with local Law Enforcement as a consultant. He has a cousin, an athletic Police Detective, who Robbie believes is the man that his father wishes he was. He (Robbie) on a whim pretends to be his father and takes on a case more because it is presented by a beautiful women rather than any interest or belief that he has the skills to successfully complete the job. His testosterone is primary responsibility for his involvement and sufficient for him to minimize his lack of skills with the rationalization that he had been working with his father long enough to understand the basis of the job. As he follows the leads and interrogates witnesses while attempting to find his clients brother, his naivety leads him to make numerous bad assumptions and trust an entirely wrong set of characters, trusting the bad guys while inditing the innocent. His tenacity and the backup of his friends with a bunch of luck allow him to finally recognize and engage the enemy and in the course of that effort evolve from adolescent to real adult hood (and get the girl). It is a great coming of age story with a host of engaging characters. Robbie's missteps bring on a bunch of smiles and memories of our own insecurities as a youth. I'm looking forward to reading Borcky's follow on book.… (más)
